You can watch the opening of the Korean Queer Culture Festival streamed live online
As you’ll know if you follow Beyond Hallyu, the Korean Queer Culture Festival has been beset by a number of problems because of issues with the police and authorities and interference from anti-LGBT Christian organisations.
Despite this, the festival is still going ahead although Pride may no longer be possible and it begins today. Because of the MERS outbreak, the organisers have decided to encourage people to attend online by streaming video of the opening ceremony. This is unfortunate for people planning to attend the festival in Seoul but it means anyone wishing to support the festival from outside of Korea can now attend virtually.
This year’s theme is ‘Self-Glowing Rainbow’ and the tagline is “Cover Seoul Plaza with Rainbow!”. The event consists of a number of stage performances followed by a DJ set. It will be streamed from 7.30pm KST and you can watch it live on YouTube.
Maybe we should all have a little global rainbow party in support of LGBT folks in Korea. Let us know where you are in the comments.
